Car of the Month

Ed's 1970 GTX with rare N88 cruise control.

Ed purchased his 1970 Plymouth GTX and took ownership this July 2017.  It originally came from the factory  with an  EF8 Ivy Green painted body with white vinyl top and white bucket seat interior with the standard 440-4bbl automatic an optional H51 air conditioning and rare N88 cruise control option.  It was built in October 1969 at the St. Louis, MO plant.  Someone else restored the car in 2004 repainting it a beautiful blue color with black vinyl top and black interior.  This GTX is one of 90 EF8 painted GTXs in the registry, as well as one of 27 with factory AC and the only one with factory N88 cruise control.

Ed has owned between 35-40 mopars since high school, Roadrunners, Chargers, Cudas, Challengers, and Duster 340's.  This is Ed's first GTX and is his favorite year.   While the car was restored in 2004, when Ed got the car it needed a lot of cosmetics and fixing thing that were wrong or not correct.  The following items were replaced with new parts: air cleaner pie tin, front bumper cushion guards, front grill and headlight bezels, taillight bezels, rear panel "plymouth" lettering, ECU, distributor, battery brackets, hood turn signals, hood to radiator seal, negative battery cable, fuel pump to carb gas lines, left and right door mirrors, auto transmission lines, washer tank and pump, spark plug brackets, pedal dress up trim, Rallye gauges were rebuilt and calibrated, and new wood grain on the dash and center console applied.

The options ordered on this GTX included the A01 light package which included the L31 hood mounted turn signals, A04 basic radio group which included power steering and the G33 driver’s side outside door remote mirror, B51 power brakes, C16 center floor console with D32 727 automatic transmission, H51 air conditioning, N85 clock/tach, N88 cruise control, R11 AM radio, V21 flat black hood performance paint, and V6W white reflective side stripe.  Currently the GTX does not have a side stripe installed.  The car also has the pedal dress up and the original steering wheel was replaced by Ed with a new leather wrapped TUFF wheel.
