This month's 1970 GTX is owned by Darwin Leis of North Dakota. It is a rare black 1970 GTX with white vinyl top and matching white interior. Other options were AM/8 track radio with three speaker front dash with the rear seat speaker, hood pins, left and right outside door mirrors, simulated wood sport steering wheel, power front disk brakes, tinted glass all around, rear window defogger, belt line moulding, rear bumper guards, power steering, center floor console for the automatic transmission, electric clock, 3.23 gears with suregrip rearend, rubber floor mats, and light package. The GTX was ordered with the standard 375HP 440-4bbl engine. According to the window sticker this 1970 GTX listed for $4,534.25, with the standard base price being $3,535.
Darwin writes that "the day this GTX arrived at Leis Motors, Inc. (Elbow Lake, MN), my father brought me down to the dealership to see this GTX. I do remember the rear brake drums were painted red, similar to the 1969 GTXs. When I purchased the car, the red paint was still there, under the dust. Again, this GTX was a stripe delete, however, when George W., the original owner, saw the car for the first time, he realized the GTX needed the white tape stripes. So, rather than take delivery, he waited until the tape stripes arrived at the dealership and were installed. One other thing George didn't like when the car arrived was the Plymouth "440 Super Commando" pie tin on the dual snorkel aircleaner so he had the dealership replace it with the Dodge version that said "440 Magnum". When George traded his GTX back into Leis Motors for a 1977 Ramcharger 4x4, the GTX had a little over 36,000 miles. It now has over 41,000 miles".
Note: Of the 38 TX9 1970 GTXs in the 1970 GTX registry only two have the white vinyl top. There was a tie for the most common top with 16 cars having the black painted top and 16 having the black vinyl top.
